Artist Statement

I delight in play in my creative work.  I see manipulation of materials as a playful way to pray and meditate.  I delight in the potential of paper, pigment, fabric, marble dust, oil, and water to be transformed into something beautiful.  Any shard or bobble, however sparkly or dull might catch my eye and be pulled into my web of creativity.

I see my works as peepholes into my process of cutting, gluing, and applying pigment, dust, and medium to surfaces. My artworks become portals into places where we may pause, wonder, and reflect. Themes driving my work are often issues that anger me, such as poor stewardship of land due to greed, social inequities, systemic misogyny, and various erased narratives. Such dark themes I feel demand attention,  yet I do not want them to be the essence of my work.

I recently learned of the Buddhist practice of tonglen- sending and taking- which was described as breathing in dark heavy heat and breathing out clear cool light. This reminded me of how through art, we can move from the dark into the light.

I invite you to view my work and hope you find a place of transformation, repose and delight.

Life is only what you wonder.
